DriveLock Management Console (DMC)

The DriveLock Management Console (DMC) is a MMC snap-in and can be used both as a stand-alone console and as an additional component of an existing administrative configuration in a Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

You can perform important configuration tasks for DriveLock 'On-Premise' in the DMC or in the policy editor. These are:

  • Create policies,

  • Assign policies,

  • Create tenants,

  • Upload and publish DriveLock Agent packages (installation files)

  • Configure DriveLock File Protection and

  • Control the DriveLock Agents in operation.

The following functions are only available in the DriveLock Management Console (DMC) and are not yet available in the DriveLock Operations Center (DOC). Integration of these functions into the web-based interface is planned, but has not yet been implemented:

  • Management functions for on-premise environments

Various management and configuration options specifically for on-premise installations are currently only available in the DMC.

  • File protection groups and certificate management

Creating and managing File Protection groups and the associated certificate management can currently only be carried out via the DMC.

  • Network Preboot Authentication (Network PBA)

Preboot authentication can only be configured and managed via the network in the DMC.

  • Managing shadowed files

Display and control of shadowed files (snapshots) can currently only be done in the DMC.

  • Remote access to agents that are not known to the DriveLock Enterprise Service (DES)

Agents that are not registered with the DES can currently only be accessed via the DMC.

  • Direct remote access to agents without connection to the DES

Direct remote access to agents without an active DES connection is also currently only available in the DMC.

After installing the DriveLock Management Console, you can start it via the Windows Start menu under All Programs -> DriveLock -> DriveLock Management Console.

The menu bar at the top contains the standard menu of an MMC, along with the buttons for accessing certain functions.

On the left side of the navigation area you can access the different functions of the DriveLock Management Console. The tree structure contains individual nodes with their sub-functions.

The taskpad view on the right shows the menu items available within a node. You can also switch this view to a detailed view (List view) showing items inside a list. This is largely the same as the classic view of an MMC.

Almost every node in the navigation pane and every element of a detail view has a context menu with corresponding functions, accessed by right-clicking.

In some places of the DriveLock Management Console or in the policy editor, you can switch from the taskpad view to the list view. Use the context menu -> View -> Taskpad view to switch back.
